Minchu's Fifth Week - Social Calls and Heat Battles
April 26 – May 3, 2025

Hi again! It's your favourite sleep-fighting, cooler-loving baby - Minchu! I've now spent five weeks outside the cosy womb zone, and boy, things are heating up around here... literally and emotionally!
Appa's been making me smell things. This week, I particularly enjoyed some fat leaves called doddpatre and a sun-coloured fruit called mango.
In case you've missed the previous posts, you can read them all here.
☀️ Summer Survival Squad
- Mysore's heat is still going strong! My new routine involves frequent cooler hugs, and you can say I already have a lot of big fans!
- I've started sweating quite a bit - I now understand why grown-ups groan when it gets hot. Even my eyebrows feel sweaty sometimes!
- Amma and Appa have been trying hard to keep me cool and comfy, even if it means more walks on the balcony.
🎉 Milestones & Mischief
- I'm growing bigger and stronger - soon I might outgrow the little bucket I pee in! These adults already struggle with helping me aim.
- I've started responding to faces and sounds. When someone talks to me sweetly, I try smiling back now. (You're welcome, fans!)
- I sometimes coo and gurgle to express myself. I'm told it's very cute.
- I made Appa panic during a nighttime change by projectile peeing onto a fresh cloth diaper - he thought it was a waterfall!
- The adults changed my black uddhara to a silver one - they were talking about me outgrowing the old one. I feel like royalty with all the bling now!
🧑💻 My Social Calendar
This week, I was a very social baby - but not all in person!
- I had lovely video calls with Ajji! I think she misses me a lot, and I gave her my best sleepy smile. Appa had been to his Bangalore home, and brought back toys Ajji made for me - I thought they were cute 🥰
- Then came the call with Uma ajji, Sudha ajji, and Manju doddappa. So many faces! I stayed calm and listened while nestled in Appa's arms.
- And guess what? I met Kothari uncle's family and their sons - Rolu and Polu! So many new names! I don't know what Rolu and Polu thought of me, but I was pretty impressed by how big they are!
- Hodmaami's clan also came by - the house was full! So many aunties and uncles. They all held me and took photos, and I gave them my best smile.
💩 The Usual Suspects
- My poop game remains unpredictable. Just when everyone thinks it's safe, I strike. Just the usual victims this week - but I'm watching you, Ammamma 👀
- My poop face has evolved again - even I don't know when I'm about to go!
- There was one day when I didn't poop at all, and all the adults thought the world stopped spinning. I pooped the next day, and it seemed like they all celebrated. What's the big deal anyway?
🎵 Songs, Cuddles & Drama
- Appa hums to me sometimes, and I stare at his face, not knowing where the sound is coming from. It's fascinating! Ammamma sings lullabies so nicely, though - I often look at her when she stops.
- Amma has been more tired this week, I think. I try to sleep a bit more at night to help her, but it's not easy with all this heat.
- Appa sometimes takes me to the balcony. The cool air and quiet sky calm me down. He keeps saying I'll love the moon one day - not sure what that is, but it sounds shiny.
Reflections from the bed
I've decided I do like this world - it's noisy, yes, and sometimes too bright, but it has so many cuddles and songs and smiling faces. Plus, everyone seems to think I'm cute, so I must be doing something right.
My Week in Mini Stats
- Feedings: I'm nearing 5kgs now - Appa calls me a mudgar and pretends to exercise, whatever that is
- Poops: Consistent. Sneak level: medium.
- Sleep: Getting better stretches at night, unless it's too warm.
- Special Skills: Seeing if the adult putting me to sleep fell asleep, and gently kicking them to start rocking again.
- Favourite Activity: Trying to move my head toward sounds.
Okay, I hear Ammamma preparing for a bath, and Sindhu mai is sitting ready for my massage. Time for me to disappear into the bathroom for my splash session!
Until next week,
Minchu (Heatwave Survivor & First of His Pee)
P.S. Does anyone else hear birds at 4 AM, or is it just me?
